3 Years ago, I lost it all. My 17 year old child, my husband walked out. I lost my home, my pets...everything. My whole world came crashing down.I thought my life was over. I sunk into a deep dark depression. Consumed with the overwhelming sadness I ran to alcohol as my only relief which only made matters worse. Finally after being hospitalized I had enough.
I cleaned my life up. I started counseling. Moved on with my life. I got the help I was desperately needing to treat my PTSD from severe trauma. I quit drinking, quit all of my bad habits. I changed my life for the better...For my child. Through counseling I learned ways of coping with my trauma. One of those ways was through crochet! I had learned many years ago through my mother Ann. She taught me it was a great way to relieve stress. So I decided to pick up the hook again. And let me tell you, it is a different beast now!!!
It is no longer your grandmas crochet!!!
It is now stylish, functional and needed. It's not just the blanket on the back of your mother's couch. It is fashion and it is fun!
So as my many items I crocheted began to take over my house (and my life!), I thought why not share this amazing gift with the world? I began to make hats for cancer patients. Then I moved onto clothing and before I knew it I was making the most unbelievable and beautiful things to decorate my world. Household items like washcloths, scrubbies, blankets, coasters and towels. People started to take notice and before I knew it I had an item list of epic proportions!!! I was sought after as a teacher and a craftsman.
Currently I'm working on training and traveling. Taking my craft on the road to craft fairs across the country. I want crochet to become a household necessity.
In the time of my recreation Ive met an amazing man who supports my gift in the most beautiful ways. He sees me as a visionary and a leader in the field. I'm grateful for him. I am happy to announce I will be his wife next year!
I am now over two years sober because of the love the world has shown me.
So now I'm ready to take my vision to the next level. I hope to show the world the beauty and the functionality of crochet by using sustainable materials and making fun items that people will use everyday. I hope my crocheted items make people happy and bring a smile to the faces of all that see them.
My future looks bright I hope to someday make workshops and give lessons in my area. Wherever that may be. However I do call the Florida Keys my home. Next stop world domination!!! JK
With the support of my love, my surviving child and my granddaughters I look to teach the next generation that crochet can open doors....
You just gotta be ready to walk through.
